love her, or in some cases, hate her, because
she was one of the best damn journalists to
ever work in the Strait area. Her fearlessness is
legendary; she was afraid of nothing. Allena’s
sudden passing this weekend leaves us all in
shock and sadness. I pity god, if one exists; for
he or she is in for some tough questioning on
their lousy timing. Allena was only 45 or so, and
she’d be mightily pissed about dying so young.
Good-bye, Allena, I am happy to have known
you.

Rebels win three in four days and NDA loses back-to-back
-by Bill Dunphy
It’s the time of the season
when the gap between the
rich and poor in the Cape
Breton West High School
Hockey League begins to
narrow.
Buoyed by a 3-1 win
over Dalbrae the week
before, the Inverness Rebels
won three games in four
days last week.
On Thursday the
Rebels beat the Richmond
Hurricane 5-4 in overtime.
Back home on Friday,
Jeremy MacDonnell scored
three times in the last two
periods to help the Rebels to
a 5-4 win over the Baddeck
Broncos.
MacDonnell’s third
goal was a beaut, forcing
a giveaway at the blue line
and going in alone on Brent
Pierro, avoiding the poke
check and slipping it behind
the Broncos netminder for
the eventual winner.
Corbin Beaton and Liam
MacDonnell also scored for
Inverness.
Ian Allison had two
goals and an assist to lead
Baddeck. Americo Pino and
J.C. Kaiser scored singles.
And in a makeup game
against the Cape Breton
Highlands Huskies in
Inverness on Sunday, Steve
Dorton scored late in the
third to lift the Rebels to a
4-3 win.
Liam MacDonnell
scored twice, and Jeremy
MacDonnell had the single.
Galen MacGregor
posted back-to-back home
wins in the Rebels’ goal.
Elsewhere in the league,
the Dalbrae Dragons got
back on the winning track
with a 4-3 win over the NDA
Acadiens in Cheticamp on
Tuesday.
Logan Murphy-Gillis,
Kenzie Beaton, Ryan Ehler
and Craig Cameron with the
winner scored for Dalbrae.
Replying for NDA were
Michel Desveaux, Marc
