Dragons stage second-half comeback for tourney win

Teams attending the
Dalbrae Dragons Senior
Boys’ basketball tournament
on the weekend could not
contain the one-two punch
of Brad MacDonald and
Chad Gillies, resulting in an
undefeated weekend for the
host Dragons.
The down-north boys
from Cabot High had the best
chance to beat the Dragons,
leading 41-28 at half-time
of the championship game.
But six fi eld goals from
MacDonald and four threepointers
from Gillies led
Dalbrae to a 68-67 comefrom-
behind victory.
“We weren’t playing
very well in the fi rst half,”
Dalbrae coach Wayne
Beaton said. “We were
taking bad fouls: not playing
with our feet but more with
our hands.”
MacDonald, with three
fouls in the fi rst half, still
managed 24 points before
fouling out with less than
two minutes remaining in
the game.
Beaton said this is when
