Cruising for a cruise?

I have to say that Premier MacDonald’s Top 10
Reasons for David Letterman to visit Nova Scotia
was priceless! I was in Halifax last week when the
list was released to the media, and it was the talk of
the city. Television and radio stations replaying it over
and over, everyone I met gave it a “thumbs up.” Came home and
it was the topic of conversation here too. In case you missed it you
can find it online at: www.novascotialife.com to see what the chatter
is all about.
As much as we love our dear province, we all need a break away
at times, to, especially in the winter months. This year with winter
starting earlier vacations are being booked for warmer destinations
earlier as well. This year many travel agents are finding that
Canadians are exploring different destinations from the usual tourist
spots such as the Dominican, etc.. Jamaica seems to be this year’s
destination for fun in the sun.
Cruises are gaining in popularity every year. People whom I
talked too who experienced their first cruise say it’s the way to go
and would do it again in a heartbeat. Many cruise lines have great
sales on their trips this time of year, and if you can travel at short
notice even more so. Or if you like the winter weather but just want
to get away there are cruises to experience Alaska’s beauty going
really cheap! Just a quick note to mention that you won’t find me on
that one. And I’m not expecting a top ten list from Governor Sarah
Palin to change my mind.
If you are cruising for a cruise to get away from it all, the folks
at the Canada Safety Council want to ensure you have a safe and
enjoyable time and are offering these words of wisdom. Many of
these great safety tips can be applied to whatever trip you decide to
take to avoid unpleasant surprises and keep yourself free of injury
and crime.
Before you leave home, make copies of important documents
that you will be carrying such as: your passport, driver’s
license, credit cards and travel documents (tickets, reservation
confirmations, etc.). You should also have important phone
numbers readily accessible: lost or stolen credit card notification
numbers, personal doctor’s phone number and your and your
family’s medication list. One small trip to a photocopy machine prior
to your departure could save you plenty of time and grief during
your vacation trying to retrieve lost information. Make two copies,
