D. Prepare for the Removal
SUBTASK 27-62-21-860-001
(1) Make sure the systems A and B hydraulic power is off. To remove it, do this task: Remove
Pressure from the Speed Brake Hydraulic Systems A and B, TASK 27-62-00-800-802.

(2) Open this circuit breaker and install safety tag:

(3) Put the speed brake lever in the DOWN position.

Remove these access panels:

SUBTASK 27-62-21-020-001
(1) Remove bolt [3] and washer [4] to disconnect the lever arm assembly [2] and remove bushing
[5].
SUBTASK 27-62-21-020-002
(2) Disconnect the speed brake control cables SBA and SBB:
(a) Install cable clamps on the cables to keep a small tension on the cables.
(b) Disconnect the turnbuckles installed in the aft part of the lower nose compartment.
(c) Install tags on the cables for identification.
(d) Remove the cable retainers and the cables from the speed brake forward drum [1].

(3) Remove the speed brake forward drum [1]:
(a) Remove quadrant bolt [18] and spacer [17].
(b) Remove the speed brake forward drum [1] from the shaft.
1) Hold the cam roller lever arm [16] away from the speed brake forward drum [1].

(4) Remove the lever brake assembly [11]:
(a) Remove the bolt [12], washer [13], and nut [14] to disconnect the input rod [15] from the
lever brake assembly [11].
(b) Remove the bolt [7], washer [8], nut [9], and cotter pin [10] to disconnect the actuator [6]
from the lever brake assembly [11].
(c) Remove the nut [21], bearing [19], and bearing [20] at the end of the lever brake shaft.
(d) Remove the lever brake assembly [11] from the airplane.
