E. Speed Brake Lever Brake Adjustment
SUBTASK 27-62-00-200-001
(1) Adjust the secondary backlash of the speed brake lever brake.
(a) Apply a 4.5 pounds (20 newtons) load to setscrew C so that setscrew A touches the drive
(Figure 508).
(b) Place a 0.036 - 0.037 inch (0.91 - 0.94 millimeter) feeler gauge between the drive and
setscrew B.
(c) Adjust setscrew B until it is tight against the feeler gauge.
(d) Remove the feeler gauge.
(e) Place a 0.018 inch (0.46 millimeter) feeler gauge between the drive and setscrew A.
(f) Loosen the locknut on setscrew D.
(g) Apply a 1.5 pounds (6.7 newtons) load to setscrew C.
(h) Place a 0.010 - 0.011 inch (0.25 - 0.28 millimeter) between setscrew D and the adjacent shoe
face.
(i) Adjust setscrew D until it is tight against the feeler gauge.
(j) With the feeler gauge in place, tighten the locknut of setscrew D.
(k) Remove the feeler gauge.
(l) Place a 0.018 inch (0.46 millimeter) feeler gauge between the drive and setscrew B.
(m) Loosen the locknut on setscrew C.
(n) Apply a 1.5 pounds (6.7 newtons) load to setscrew D.
(o) Place a 0.010 - 0.011 inch (0.25 - 0.28 millimeter) between setscrew C and the adjacent shoe
face.
(p) Adjust setscrew C until it is tight against the feeler gauge.
(q) With the feeler gauge in place, tighten the locknut of setscrew C.
(r) Remove the feeler gauge.
SUBTASK 27-62-00-200-002
(2) Verify the total primary backlash of the speed brake lever brake.
(a) Apply a 1.5 pounds (6.7 newtons) load to setscrew D.
(b) Verify that the total primary backlash at setscrew C is between 0.020 - 0.023 inches (0.51 -
0.58 millimeters).
(c) Apply a 1.5 pounds (6.7 newtons) load to setscrew C.
(d) Verify that the total primary backlash at setscrew D is between 0.020 - 0.023 inches (0.51 -
0.58 millimeters).
(e) If the total primary backlash of at setscrew C or setscrew D is not between 0.020 - 0.023
inches (0.51 - 0.58 millimeters), then repeat the secondary backlash adjustment procedure
until the total primary backlash is within the limits.
