   AIRPLANE MAINTENANCE MANUAL
8. INSTRUMENTS AND AVIONICS
8.1. Presentation
In light of applicable regulations, the Festival R40S airplane is equipped with two types of instruments:
Mandatory (instruments required by the engine manufacturer): oil thermometer, cylinder head thermometer, oil manometer, tachometer, fuel level indicator, airspeed indicator, altimeter and engine stop switch.  Optional: compass, radio, GPS, ELT, transponder, intercom unit, vertical speed indicator, turn indicator, gyro horizon, giro-directional, clock, voltmeter, ammeter, navigation and strobe lamps, etc..
In terms of connection to airplane systems:
-Instruments connected to a system;
-Instruments not connected to a system.
NOTE: Detailed descriptions and instructions for the maintenance, repair, replacement and installation of existing and additional instruments and avionics can be found in the chapters dedicated to each specific system or installation.
9. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
9.1. Description of electrical system
FESTIVAL is fitted with an electrical system so designed as to tailor its engine power and starting system. The ROTAX 912S engine is equipped with a generator unit of 14V DC, of 250W maximum power. The mono-phase generator with permanent magnets is connected directly to a rectifier/regulator that provides a supply voltage of 13.5V±5% and a current of 18 A.
Taking into account the aircraft category, the electrical system was designed with a single distributing bus bar, with the regulator serially connected to an 18Ah storage battery type POWER-SONIC PS-12180NB.
The standard electrical system of the aircraft is structured in two functional groups:
.
Startup-generator-signaling (see diagram 1.1 in the Wiring Diagram Album)

.
Engine control (see diagram 2.1 in the Wiring Diagram Album)

All the equipment and accessories on the aircraft are grouped on distinct systems, each supplied by a circuit breaker, directly from the 12V DC distributing bus bar.
a) The startup – generator - signaling group refers to the startup and power equipment that ensure the aircraft electrical autonomy, both on ground and in flight. This group includes both the engine original equipment - provided by the manufacturer (generator, starter, electronic ignition), and any additional equipment necessary to ensure the good operation of the electrical system (storage battery, voltmeter, ammeter, circuit breakers and interconnecting elements).
