3.3. Canopy
3.3.1. Canopy description (fig. no. 20)
It consists of a fixed windshield, made of Lexan, and a sliding canopy, that can be folded back by means of four rods. The sliding canopy consists of a metallic frame made of 6061 tube, windshields made of organic glass, upper sheet metal panel, strips and fittings, air intakes, opening/closing system and a locking system. The closing system consists of Bowden cable, that covey the motion from the inner or outer handles (which are inter-linked) to three latch hooks, one located on top of the canopy front frame, and the other two on bottom of the side frames.
To lift and fold back the canopy, use the two upper outer handles and the two inner handles located on the side frames. In . latched . position, the locking system consists of a key-operated Yale lock and a catch that blocks the operation of the opening handles.

3.3.2. Maintenance of canopy
Level of certification needed: Owner
1.
Clean the sliding canopy and the windshield with water and detergent.
2.
Inspect the general condition of the canopy and windows.
3.
Repair any damaged protection coatings.
4.Check the locking-unlocking mechanisms, their fastening, general technical condition, securing in position, good operating condition. After all these operations, dismount the parts, remove any non-conformances, clean and grease the mechanism joints and the Bowden cables.
5. Check the sealing frame paste integrity and the sealing quality; recondition any non-conforming areas.
6. In the end, check the installation, the canopy operating condition and its locking.
3.3.3. Repairing of canopy
Level of certification needed: A&P Mechanic
Necessary tools and materials:
-drilling machine;
-felt barrel;
-drill # 2 (.2mm = 0.07 in.) ;
-saw;
-fine sandpaper;
-cotton cloths;
-chamois;
-Altupol no. 1 and no. 2 ;
-soap
a) Removal of scratches NOTE: Maximum 3 scratches are allowed, of max. (4.72 inch) in length and a depth of max. (0.02 inch);.

Abrade the scratched area with fine sandpaper, until the damage is removed;
2.
Wash the abraded area until all dirt is removed and let it dry;
3.
Polish the area with a felt barrel and Altupol;
4.
Wipe with a wet cloth, and then with chamois.
5.
Check to make sure the area is transparent again.
CAUTION: When abrading off the scratches in the pilot’s field of vision, the images seen from the cockpit must remain undistorted and non-displaced.
b) Repairing of window cracks
NOTE:
1.
Maximum three cracks are allowed, of maximum 3.2 inch length each, in the vicinity of the bezel; no central cracks are allowed on the windows.
