5.2. Maintenance of fuel system
Level of certification needed: A&P Mechanic
To ensure a proper and efficient operation of the ROTAX 912S engine, special attention
should be paid to the cleanliness of the fuel filters. The fine fuel filter must be replaced after the first
10 hours of flight, as the presence of large quantities of tank sealant in the gasoline during the first
hours of operation may cause the clogging of the fine filter. In operation, the fine filter should be
replaced after every 100 hours of engine operation. The finger filter located in the flange of the fuel
tank and settling filter-screening element should be cleaned after every 50 hours of operation. To
perform this procedure, drain the fuel system, removing the fuelling pipe from the tank, and then the
finger filter from the tank flange. To clean the settling filter: remove the cup-fastening clip, unscrew
the cup from the body, and remove the screening element. Clean by rinsing in clean gasoline and by
blasting with dry compressed air. Reinstall the parts, reversing the above-mentioned dismounting
procedure.
In case of stationing periods of more than 10days, with the system fuelled, and after every third refueling, drain the tanks and the settling filter. This can be done by draining fluid through the drainage valves mounted on the tanks and filter, until the gasoline is clean, without foreign matters.
In case of erroneous fuel readings caused only by wrong signals from the fuel quantity sender mounted in the tank, recalibrate the sender, taking into account that this sender can be recalibrated several times. To recalibrate a fuel quantity sender, proceed as follows:
-bring the airplane to horizontal (by checking the gyro-horizon ball on the control panel and a water level laid on the cockpit floor);
- drain the tank containing the sender to be recalibrate, making sure that there is no water in the tank (water affects the sender readings, leading to erroneous indication of full level);

 dismount the wing-to-fuselage fairing for access to the fuel quantity sender;

 to enter the calibration mode, connect the system to the power supply (see figure 1).
