Fig.1 FUEL SENDER 395-5SB-5
-
pour into the tank enough fuel to allow the sender to read "EMPTY" (10 l or 2.64 USA gallons);
-
turn the RH knob (EMPTY) so that the fuel probe in the cockpit corresponding to the fuel sender undergoing calibration reads “E” (empty tank);
-
fuel the tank with the quantity necessary for the fuel sender to read "FULL" (11 USA gal).
-
turn the LH knob (FULL) so that the fuel probe in the cockpit corresponding to the fuel sender undergoing calibration reads “F” (full tank);

AIRPLANE MAINTENANCE MANUAL
This shows that the sender is calibrated for correct fuel level readings.
Check the carburetors at every 25, 50, 100 and 200 hours of operation, verifying the mechanical and pneumatic synchronization, the idle RPM and their operation. Checking will be performed in conformance with the "Maintenance manual for ROTAX engine series 912, chapter 12-00-00 section 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, observing the labor safety measures in the propeller area, and monitoring the propeller during the engine operation.
Inspect the fuel system hoses every 25, 50, 100 and 200 hours of operation. Remove the fire sleeves from the gasoline hoses, and check all the pipes for damages, hardening due to heating, porosity or cracks. Carefully check the hose areas to be mounted in outlets, under collars. Check the hose route for bent, crooked or obstructed areas. No choking is allowed on the hoses.
After 10 years of operation, replace the fuel system hoses. In case of stationing periods of for more than 3 months (in wintertime), it is recommended to drain the fuel system. The fuel system air tightness checkup for air losses can be done as follows:
-
drain the fuel system;
-
disconnect the return hose from the firewall outlet;
-
turn off the SHUT OFF valve;
-
plug the outer ventilation pipes of the tanks;
-install a transparent hose of 6mm (0.24 inch) inside diameter, aprox. 3m (10 ft) length, on the return outlet on the firewall;
-
attach the loose end of the hose to a rod of approx. 1.2m length, with two marks on it, at 1m distance between them;
-
keep the rod and transparent hose in upright position on ground level, and fill the hose with water to the upper mark on the rod. In this case, on over-pressure of 0.1 bar (1.5 psi) will be created in the system, to be maintained for 10 minutes;
-
check the fluid level in the transparent hose. If this level has dropped, determine the non-tightness by means of water and soap emulsion, and remove this non-tightness after annulling the pressure;
- reinstall the fuel system.
