Removal of damages at the fuel system usually consists in replacement of damaged parts and equipment.
The main damage which mandatory requires repair work is the loss of airtightness at the wing fuel tanks.
To repair the wet (wing) fuel tanks, proceed as follows:
1.
 Drain all fuel from tanks;

2.
 Dismount the wing with damaged fuel tank and lay it on protected framing trestles;

3.
 Remove all traces of dust and dirt from the wing areas near the tank;

4.
 Open the filling cap and blast with compressed air until the tank is completely dried; check its cleanliness condition.

5.
Mix the pink hardener with base in the ration 1:15 (by weight); always prepare the whole quantity of base coat primer in a container with the whole quantity of hardener in the container. To

mix the composition, use a paddle made of plastic materials: organic glass, textolite etc. or other corrosion-proof material, until the pink color completely disappears.
6.
 Using a short-bristle brush, apply a 0.4-0.5 mm (0.016-0.02 inch) layer of sealant 1005L on the entire inside area of the tank.

7. Let the tank dry for 20 minutes at 25oC.

8.
 Apply a second layer of sealant 1005L, by splashing (pouring and turning the plane over on all sides);

9.
 Use hot air to dray the tank.

10.
Check for any clogging at all vents.

11.
Check for any leakage.
Necessary materials and tools:
-Sealant 1005L;
-Brushes;
-Cotton cloths;
-MEK solvent (methyl-ethyl-cetone);
-Compressed air supply, hot air supply.

 

 

CAUTION:
1.
 Always wear protective equipment, gloves and gas mask.

2.
 Do not work with open fire. Do not smoke.
