STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
____________________________________________________
General (Fig. 1 and 2)
_______
A. The water storage and distribution system supplies drinkable water to the galley unit and to the washbasin in the lavatory compartment. The system includes the equipment that is necessary to store and deliver water to the above units. The supply of water is monitored by quantity indicators as described in 38-14-60, Water Quantity Indicating. To ensure an adequate flow of water to each dispensing component, the system is pressurized as described in 38-15-60, Water Tank Pressurization. The system consists of water storage tanks, distribution tubing, and the following valves: one fill/drain valve, one overflow/depressurization valve, self-venting faucets in the lavatory, and a water shutoff valve in each lavatory and galley compartment.
B. The water lines that connect the water tanks to the lavatory and galley are of two types, rigid tubes of corrosion resistant steel, and nylon braid reinforced teflon hoses. The supply and the drain lines are installed with a positive slope to allow complete drainage. Water lines that pass through cold areas are protected by in-line heaters and insulation blankets.
Water Tanks
___________
A. The potable water is stored in two fiberglass tanks located on the right side of the forward cargo compartment.
B. Each tank has a volumetric capacity of 11 US gallons. The usable capacity in each tank is limited to 10 US gallons by a fill limiting tube.
C. Each tank has an immersion heater to keep the water above 0°C.
D. The tanks are attached to the frames by support channels connected to the
mounting rings on the tanks.Washbasin Faucet
________________
A. A faucet assembly is installed in each lavatory compartment. It provides hot, cold or warm water at the washbasin through a common spout. The faucet assembly has two cartridges with valves that control the flow of water. A cartridge is located in the body of each hot and cold water faucet, under the control handle.
(1)
Hot or cold water flow is controlled by depressing the hot or cold handle which in turn actuates a plunger valve in the cartridge.
(2)
The water flow will stop when the control handles are released.
(3)
Self-venting capability is provided by the bleed valve fitted under the spout. The valves close when the water system is pressurized and open to vent the hot and cold water faucets when system pressure is below 0.5 psig.
