WATER QUANTITY INDICATING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_____________________________________________________
General (Fig. 1)
_______
A. Potable water quantity indicators are installed to show the quantity of water in the water tanks. The indicators are used during servicing and by the flight crew when it is necessary to determine the quantity of water in the tanks. The water quantity indicators get their input from a signal that starts from a water level sensor in the water tank. The signal is converted to dc volts by the water quantity transmitter which sends the signal to the indicators.
Water Level Sensor (Fig. 1 and 2)
__________________
A. The water level sensor is installed in the wall of the water tanks. (The water level sensor is part of the water tank.) The water level sensor senses the capacitance which is proportional to the water level of the tank.
Water Quantity Transmitter (Fig. 1 and 2)
__________________________
A. The water quantity transmitter is installed below the water tanks on the airplane sidewall. The water quantity transmitter measures the capacitance output from the level sensor and converts the output to volts (dc). The output from the transmitter varies from 0 to 10 vdc in proportion to the level of water in the tanks. These voltage signals are the input for the water quantity indicators.
Water Quantity Indicator (Fig. 1 and 2)
________________________
A. The indicator on the upper deck attendants panel is a band type liquid crystal display. It provides a continuous indication of water quantity remaining in the tanks in 1/32 increments.
B. The water quantity indicator on the water service panel has a face with a continuously indicating digital display. The indicator displays the percentage of full capacity that remains in the tanks.
