Lubricate the O-ring (6) with grease and place the O-ring in position.

Assemble a new lubricated O-ring (7) on the retainer bolt (8).
(v)
Install the retainer bolt in the right pin (5) and tighten the retainer nut (4) to 10-15 pound-feet.
(w)
Fill the area around the retainer nut (4) with grease.
(x)
Install the lube insert (3) with O-rings (2) in the collar pin
(5)
and secure it with the retainer ring (1).
(y)
Tighten the clamps and the couplings on the electrical conduit and do a check of the security of the electrical boxes on the nose gear (Fig. 402).

Check the collar for free turning in both directions.

NOSE GEAR STEERING COLLAR - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. This subject has one task, determining the wear of the nose gear steering collar.
(1)
It measures the fit of the steering collar, the shock strut outer cylinder and the collar bushing.
(2)
It measures the fit of the steering cylinder rod end, the collar pin and the bushing.
B.
To do the task the steering cylinder rod ends must be disconnected from the steering collar and the steering collar must be removed from the shock strut.

Do this task: "Nose Gear Steering Collar Removal" (AMM 32-51-06/401).

Do a check of the wear limits of the shock strut, the steering collar bushing, the steering collar, the rod end, the collar pin and the bushings.

Measure the parts interface diameters and compare the measured dimensions to the limit dimensions.
(b)
If a part is not within tolerance, repair or replace it, whichever is necessary.
