 (3)  S 034-048Disconnect the connecting rod from the valve input arm.
 (4)  S 034-008Disconnect the hydraulic lines and plug the open ends.
 (5)  S 034-009Remove the nuts (5), the washers (3), and the bolts (1 and 2) which connect the valve to the steering actuator upper support.
 (6)  S 114-010Remove a bead of sealant from the junctions of the retainer nuts and the steering cylinder above the upper trunnion locknut. (a) Use toluene to soften the sealant, and scrape it with a wooden or plastic spatula to completely remove it.

 CAUTION: THE TWO ENDS OF THE VALVE ASSEMBLY MUST BE KEPT AT THE SAME
_______ LEVEL DURING VALVE REMOVAL. UNEVEN REMOVAL OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT RETAINER NUTS CAN CAUSE VALVE ASSEMBLY TUBE DAMAGE.
 (7)  Remove the valve retainer nuts evenly, at the two ends of the valve, using a torque wrench adapter.

 CAUTION: DISCONNECTING THE METERING VALVE FROM THE STEERING CYLINDERS
_______ WILL EXPOSE OPEN HYDRAULIC PASSAGES. CAREFULLY REMOVE ALL CONTAMINATION, SUCH AS SAND AND DIRT, FROM THE AREA AROUND AND IN THE TRUNNIONS BEFORE TO EXPOSING THE OPEN PORTS.
 (8)  
Remove the valve.

 (a)  
Install the valve input arm on the valve.

 (9)  
Make sure the rubber seal or the metal ring cannot be seen out of the trunnion bearings.

 (a)  
If the seal or ring is out, replace the bearing (AMM 32-51-12/401).

 (b)  
Apply penetrating oil before removing the bearing to reduce possible damage to the bearing or the support plate.
