Install the nose gear steering collar.
(a)
Position a set of bushings (10) and (11) and the forward and aft steering collar halves on the shock strut (Fig. 403).
NOTE: The steering collar halves and bushings are installed

(b) Fill the clearance between the aft and the forward steering collar with sealant (CMM 32-21-40, Repair 5-1, paragraph 3.)
NOTE: The clearance between the two steering collar halves
____ must be filled with sealant (Fig. 404, view A-A).

Install both of the upper and the lower steering collar bushing splice straps (12) and (13) and then lockwire the attachment bolts (Section A-A, Fig. 401).
(d)
Position the left steering cylinder rod end to the collar attach lug.
(e)
Do a check and then adjust the clearances, if it is necessary, between the steering cylinder rod end bearings and the forward steering collar, top and bottom, with nylon washers removed (Fig. 401, View A). 1) If it is necessary, adjust the two steering cylinder
trunnion locknuts with a wrench adapter. a) Do not tighten the nuts more than the thread friction torque plus 25 pound-inches.
(f)
Place washers on the two sides of the rod end and reposition it.

Insert the collar pin (5) through the steering collars and the left steering cylinder rod end.
(h)
Align the splines and insert the bushing (9) into position on the collar pin (5).
(i)
Lubricate the O-ring (6) with grease and place the O-ring in position.
(j)
Assemble a new lubricated O-ring (7) on the retainer bolt (8).
(k)
Install the retainer bolt in the left pin (5) and tighten the retainer nut (4) to 10-15 pound-feet.
(l)
Fill the area around the retainer nut (4) with grease.
(m)
Install the lube insert (3) with O-rings (2) in the collar pin
(5)
and secure it with the retainer ring (1).
(n)
Turn the steering collar counterclockwise approximately 45 degrees.
(o)
Position the right steering cylinder rod end to the collar attach lug.
(p)
Do a check and, if it is necessary, adjust the clearances between the steering cylinder rod end bearings and the forward steering collar, top and bottom, with the nylon washers removed (Fig. 401, View A). 1) If an adjustment is required, adjust the two steering
cylinder trunnion locknuts with a wrench adapter. a) Do not tighten the nuts more than the thread friction torque plus 25 pound-inches.
