(5)
Do a check of the valve input arm.
(a)
Move the valve input arm forward from the neutral position until it is bottomed out and then hold for a minimum of (10) seconds. 1) Release the valve input arm slowly. 2) Make sure that the valve input arm goes back to the
(center) neutral position.
S 715-048
(6)
Repeat the above check but move the valve input arm aft from the neutral position.
(a)
Make sure the results are the same.
S 865-049
(7)
Release the pressure from hydraulic system No. 1 (AMM 29-11-00/201).
S 435-050
(8)
Connect the valve connecting rod to the valve input arm.
S 835-051
(9)
Make sure that rig pins NS-5 and NS-3 fit loosely in the summing lever mechanism and the metering valve (Fig. 502).

(2) Do a check of the steering and centering operation. (a) Turn the captain's tiller from the neutral position to the left (counterclockwise) until the tiller stop is touched and then hold.
(b) (c) Make sure that the collar turns 70 (+2/-3) degrees from the neutral position.Release the captain's tiller and permit it to go to the neutral position without manual help. 1) Make sure the captain's tiller goes to the neutral position. 2) Make sure that the steering collar goes to its neutral position within 2.0 degrees.
S 715-054
(3) Repeat the above check but turn the captain's tiller from the neutral position to the right (clockwise). (a) Make sure the results are the same.
S 715-055
(4) Do a check of the force necessary to move the captain's tiller. (a) Turn the captain's tiller to the left (counterclockwise) until the collar has turned 62 (| 5) degrees and then hold. 1) Measure the tangential force necessary, at a 5.00-inch radius, to complete the captain's tiller turn needed to get a steering collar movement to a full 70 (+2/-3) degrees. a) Make sure that the force is not more than 16.0 pounds.
S 715-056
(5) Repeat the above step but turn the captain's tiller to the right (clockwise). (a) Make sure the results are the same.
S 865-057
(6) Move the captains tiller to the neutral position.
S 715-058
(7) Do a check of the steering operating time. (a) Turn the captain's tiller, by hand, as quickly as possible to the left (counterclockwise) from the neutral position until the steering collar is turned 70 (+2/-3) degrees. 1) Make sure that the full steering time is 9 seconds or less with no chatter or erratic system operation. 2) Move the captain's tiller to the neutral position.
S 715-059
(8) Repeat the above check but turn the captain's tiller to the right (clockwise). (a) Make sure the results are the same.
