TOILET SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General_______
A. This procedure includes the following tasks:
(1)
Standard practices for the proper handling of toilet waste.
(2)
Toilet waste blockage removal (forward toilet).
(3)
Toilet waste blockage removal (aft lavatory).
B. When toilet system blockage occurs, it is possible that toilet flush/waste liquids can spill inside the airplane. If this situation should occur, all toilet waste must be removed immediately and the contaminated areas fully cleaned and disinfected (AMM 05-51-12/201).
C. In extreme cold conditions, the toilet fluids can freeze and potentially cause blockage to the toilet system.
D. Blockage of the toilet system commonly occur in the following areas:
(1)
Forward Lavatory.
(2)
Electronic Equipment Compartment.
(3)
Aft Lavatory(s).
(4)
Aft Cargo Compartment / Equipment Bay.

2. Standard Practices for the Proper Handling of Toilet Waste.__________________________________________________________
A. General
(1) You must obey local regulatory procedures and company policies when working with toilet waste and toilet waste equipment.
B. Access
(1) Location Zones:
(a)
100 Lower Half of Fuselage
(b)
200 Upper Half of Fuselage
C. Procedure

(1) When servicing or maintaining the toilet system and its components, make sure you wear the applicable personal protection equipment such as the following:
(a)
Elbow length gloves
(b)
Face Mask

(2) You must thoroughly disinfect anything you come in contact with when working with toilet waste.

WARNING: ALWAYS WEAR PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT, AND WASH HANDS
_______ THOROUGHLY WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTER COMPLETION OF WASTE SYSTEM PROCEDURES. DO NOT SERVICE POTABLE WATER SYSTEMS, OR CONDUCT MAINTENANCE ON ANY POTABLE WATER SYSTEM COMPONENTS CONCURRENTLY AFTER CONDUCTING SUCH OPERATIONS WITHOUT WASHING HANDS. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN CAUSE ILLNESS TO OTHERS OR SELF.
(3) You must thoroughly disinfect yourself and your clothing before working on other aircraft components.
NOTE: Never service the airplane potable water system, or maintain
____ potable water system components after servicing or maintaining the toilet waste system and its components without thoroughly disinfecting yourself.

WARNING: ALL TOILET SYSTEM COMPONENTS MUST BE CLEAN OF WASTE AND
_______ DISINFECTED PRIOR TO NORMAL HANDLING AND SHIPPING. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN CAUSE ILLNESS TO OTHERS AND SELF.
(4) Thoroughly clean and disinfect any toilet waste system components removed from the airplane prior to normal handling and shipping operations.

3. Toilet-Waste Blockage Removal (Forward Lavatory)________________________________________________
A. General
(1)
This inspection procedure is to be done when a blockage occurs to the waste drain of the forward toilet system.
