ICE AND RAIN PROTECTION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

General
_______
A. The following systems (Fig. 1) are used to protect the airplane and aid the pilots when operating under ice and rain conditions:
(1)
Thermal anti-icing (TAI) systems using engine bleed air are provided for the wing, engine, and engine cowls.
(2)
Electrical anti-icing systems are provided for the control cabin windows, pitot and temperature probe sensors, and the alpha vanes.
(a) There is also anti-icing provided for the toilet drains.
(3)
Rain removal is provided for the No. 1 control cabin windows by a windshield wiper system. A rain repellent system is also provided to be used in conjunction with the wiper system.
Thermal Anti-Icing (TAI) Systems

A. The wing thermal anti-icing (TAI) system de-ices the leading edge slats. The air for the TAI system is supplied from engine bleed air (Ref Chapter 36, Engine Bleed Air Distribution System).
B. The engine thermal anti-ice (TAI) system de-ices the engine nose dome and
engine inlet cowl.Electrical Anti-Icing Systems

A. The control cabin window anti-icing system de-ices and provides birdproofing of the No. 1, 2, 4, and 5 control cabin windows on each side of the control cabin. The windows are heated by the use of a transparent electrical resistance coating incorporated as an integral part of the windows.
