(3) Do these steps if you use the engine bleed air to pressurize the TAI duct.
(a)
Start the engines (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(b)
Keep the engines at the IDLE position.
NOTE: This keeps the temperature of the duct satisfactory.

(4) Do these steps if you use an external air supply to pressurize the TAI duct.
(a)
Connect the external air supply to the ground pneumatic connection.
(b)
Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).
(c)
Close the engine bleed valves.
(d)
Close the air-conditioning pack valves.
(e)
Make sure the isolation valve is in the OPEN or the AUTO position.

(5) Do the test of the leakage from the TAI duct.
(a)
Put the WING ANTI-ICE switch in the ON position.
WARNING:_______DO NOT TOUCH THE TAI DUCT. THE DUCT CAN GET VERY HOT. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY.
(b)
Move your hand near the TAI duct to feel for leaks.
(c)
Some leakage is satisfactory along duct seals and joints.
(d)
It is not satisfactory if you can feel a leak 12 or more inches away from the TAI duct.
(e)
Put the WING ANTI-ICE switch in the OFF position.

(6) Put the airplane back to its usual condition.
(a)
Remove the locks from the actuators of the leading edge slats (AMM 27-81-00/201).
(b)
Retract the leading edge slats (AMM 27-81-00/001).
(c)
Do these steps if you used the APU to pressurize the TAI duct. 1) Close the air-conditioning pack valves. 2) Close the engine bleed valves. 3) Stop the APU (AMM 49-11-00/201).
(d)
Stop the engine if you used them to pressurize the TAI duct (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(e)
Do these steps if you used an external air supply to pressurize the TAI duct. 1) Close the air-conditioning pack valves. 2) Close the engine bleed valves. 3) Disconnect the external air supply.

4) Remove electrical power if it is not necessary (AMM 24-22-00/201).
(f) Install the access panels on the bottom of the front of the wings (AMM 12-30-00/201).

WING THERMAL ANTI-ICING SHUTOFF VALVE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. The wing thermal anti-icing shutoff valves are outboard of the engine in the front edge of the wing. You get to the valves through panels in the bottom of the front edge of the wing.
