(1)
Install the locking devices.
(a)
Put the PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING in the CAPT and F/O side sticks.
(b)
Install the TOOL-ELEVATOR NEUTRAL SETTING on the elevator.
(2)
Put the WARNING NOTICE in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(3)
Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at zone 334/344.

(1)
Make sure that the outer surface of the inspection area is clean and smooth.
(2)
If necessary, clean the surface of the inspection area with a MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-003) moist in CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-010) until contamination is removed. Do not let the cleaning agent dry on the surfaces.

A. Detailed Inspection
(1)
Make a detailed inspection of the external surface of the elevator outboard rib for corrosion.
(2)
If there is damage, look for the allowable damage limits and the applicable repair procedure. (Ref. SRM 552100 PB 101)
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
(1)
Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.
(2)
Install the elevator stabilizer tips 332AB/342AB. (Ref. TASK 55-14-11-400-001)

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s): 15CE1, 15CE2, 16CE1, 16CE2, 19CE1, 19CE2, 19CE3

ELEVATOR SPAR BOX - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

R 1. General.________
R A. Elevator Spar Box.
R - The elevator spar box is the primary structural component of the
R elevator. All other components are attached to it.
R 2. Description___________
R (Ref. Fig. 001)
R A. Elevator Components.
R - The structure of the elevator has a front spar, an upper and a lower
R skin panel and four ribs. All components are made of laminations of
R Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP).
R B. Skin Panels.
R - The skin panels are attached to the front spar and to the ribs. Hi-Lok
R fasteners attach them to the front spar and to the ribs. Honeycomb
R cores make them stronger. Screws connect the aft joint of the skin
R panels. Rivets attach a light-alloy profile to the trailing edge to
R make the trailing edge stronger. The light-alloy profile is sealed.
R C. Elevator Fittings.
R - There are six hinge fittings and two actuator fittings attached to the
R front spar. Six nose ribs make the leading edge stronger. Hi-Lok
R fasteners attach the fittings and the ribs.
