TRIMMABLE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER APRON - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

General
_______ The Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS) aprons make an aerodynamic seal between the horizontal stabilizer and the fuselage. On each side of the horizontal stabilizer there is an upper and a lower apron. They are identified 333AT and 333AB (left-hand), 343AT and 343AB (right-hand).

Description.
____________ The aprons are of sandwich construction. The sandwich has surfaces made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) and Nomex honeycomb cores. A clamping profile and countersunk screws attach the aprons to the horizontal stabilizer. The forward edges of the aprons follow a guide profile which is riveted to the fuselage skin. A silicone sealing strip seals the gap between the fuselage skin and the aprons.
