A. Preparation of the Replacement Component
WARNING : OBEY THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU USE THE SPECIAL_______ MATERIAL. THIS MATERIAL IS DANGEROUS.
CAUTION : DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACES. THE COMPONENTS ARE MADE OF_______ CARBONFIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC.
(1) Clean the mating surface of the THS with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004)
(2) Remove the old sealant from the aprons (4), (9) with a nonmetallic scraper and CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004).
(3) Remove the screws (10), the cover strip (11), (12) and the seal (13), (14) from the removed apron (4), (9).
R (4) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area.
R R (5) Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area.
R R R (6) Do an inspection for correct condition of the nut-plates. - If necessary, do the Fairing Attachment Repair (Ref. ASRM 55-11-11-201).

B. Preparation for Installation
R (Ref. Fig. 403/TASK 55-15-11-991-003)
R NOTE : This procedure is applicable for an upper apron. The procedure for____
R a lower apron is the same.
R NOTE : This procedure is applicable for all aprons where shims are____
R necessary for the installation.
R (1) Put the apron (4) in position.
R (2) Install the attachment screws (1), (2).
R (3) TORQUE the screws (1), (2) to between 0.4 and 0.5 m.daN (35.39 and
R 44.24 lbf.in) in the correct sequence.
R (4) Measure the distance between the apron (4) and the fuselage surface.
R - The distance must be 2.5 +1.0 -1.0 mm (0.0984 +0.0393 -0.0393 in.).
R
R (5) Measure the distance between the apron (4) and the THS surface.
R - The distance must be 1.0 mm (0.0393 in.) maximum.
R (6) If the distance is more than 1.0 mm (0.0393 in.), you must install
R the apron (4) with a shim (2024T3 Aluminum Alloy) as given in the
R procedure that follows.
R (7) Attach the shim on the apron (4) and adjust it to the correct
R dimension.
R (8) Drill through the shim to copy the holes of the apron (4).
R (9) Remove the shim and clean it with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-
004).
R (10) Apply SPECIAL MATERIALS (Material No. 05-013) to the mating surface
of the THS.
R (11) Apply a 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) layer of BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS
R (Material No. 08-051) to the surface of the apron (4) and install the
R shim.
R (12) Apply a 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) layer of BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS
(Material No. 08-051) to the shim.
(13) Put the apron (4) in position on the THS surface and install the screws (1), (2).
(14) Tighten the screws (1), (2) until the distances between the apron (4) and the THS surface and the fuselage surface are correct.
NOTE : Tighten the screws (1), (2) by hand and in the correct____ sequence.
(15) Remove the excess compound.
(16) Let the BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS (Material No. 08-051) cure for 24 hours.
(17) Remove the screws (1), (2) and the apron (4).
(18) Remove the excess compound and remove the release agent from the mating surfaces.
(19) Clean the mating surfaces with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004).
(20) Install the seal (14) and the cover strip (12) with the screws (10).
