R B. Biocidal Shock Treatment for Moderate Contamination - using Kathon
R Biocide with a Metered Injection Rig
R CAUTION : DO NOT USE A LARGE QUANTITY OF KATHON BIOCIDE IN THE FUEL:_______
R - MORE THAN 100 PPM IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE ENGINES
R - MORE THAN 400 PPM IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
R NOTE : It is not necessary to defuel the aircraft before you start the____
R biocide treatment. AIRBUS recommends that this procedure be done
R with the minimum amount of fuel on board (after flight and before
R fuel servicing).
R (1) To refuel the aircraft with the correct proportion of Kathon and
R fuel, (100 parts per million by weight) use the formula that follows
R for each fuel tank.
R
R C(uf) = 100(FOB+UPLIFT)-FOB
R ---------------------
R UPLIFT
R
R Where:
R - C(uf) is the concentration of Kathon required in the fuel to be
R added in parts per million (ppm)
R - FOB is the fuel quantity (kg/lbs) already on board the aircraft
R (without added Kathon)
R - UPLIFT is the refuel quantity (kg/lbs) required to fill the
R aircraft (with Kathon added).
R
R For example, if the fuel quantity on board (FOB) was 10000 (kg/lbs)
R and the refuel quantity to add (UPLIFT) was 10000 (kg/lbs):
R
R C(uf) = 100(10000+10000)-10000
R ------------------------
R 10000
R
R C(uf) = 1990000
R ---------
R 10000
R
R C(uf) = 199
R
R Thus the amount of Kathon necessary in the refuel quantity (UPLIFT)
R is 199 ppm by weight.
R
R NOTE : The concentration of Kathon in the refuel quantity must not be____
R more than 400 ppm by weight. If the result of the calculation
R is more than 400 ppm, you must:
R - defuel the aircraft (Ref. TASK 28-25-00-650-001)
R - refuel the aircraft with the correct concentration of fuel
R and Kathon (100 ppm by weight) (Ref. TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
R (2) Record the onboard fuel quantity for each fuel tank.
R (3) Calculate the necessary quantity of fuel to be added to each fuel
R tank.
R (4) Use the procedure given in step (1) to calculate the correct
R concentration of Kathon to add during refuel.
R (5) Put MICROBIOLOGICAL CONTAMIN. PROTECT. MATERIALS (Material No. 17-
R 003A) into the METERING EQUIPMENT - BIOCIDE, HAMMONDS FUEL ADDITIVES
R INC.(CAGE CODE 0U7J1).
R (6) Make sure that the METERING EQUIPMENT - BIOCIDE, HAMMONDS FUEL
R ADDITIVES INC.(CAGE CODE 0U7J1) is correctly electrically bonded.
R (7) Connect the fuel tanker to the input side of a METERING EQUIPMENT -
R BIOCIDE, HAMMONDS FUEL ADDITIVES INC.(CAGE CODE 0U7J1).
R (8) Connect the output side of the METERING EQUIPMENT - BIOCIDE, HAMMONDS
R FUEL ADDITIVES INC.(CAGE CODE 0U7J1) to the aircraft.
R (9) Do a manual refuel of each fuel tank to its maximum capacity
R (Ref. TASK 12-11-28-650-004). Make sure that the fuel added is
R treated with Kathon at the correct concentration. The Kathon
R concentration in each tank after refuel must be 100 ppm (by weight)
R or less.
R NOTE : AIRBUS recommends that you refuel the aircraft to the maximum____
R capacity. If this is not done, (for operational reasons)
R microbiological contamination can stay in the upper parts of
R the fuel tanks.
R (10) Disconnect the METERING EQUIPMENT - BIOCIDE, HAMMONDS FUEL ADDITIVES
R INC.(CAGE CODE 0U7J1) and the tanker from the aircraft.
R Subtask 28-11-00-860-106
R C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
R (1) Do the EIS stop procedure (Ref. TASK 31-60-00-860-002).
R (2) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. TASK 24-41-00-862-
R 002).
R Subtask 28-11-00-670-062
R D. Fuel System Treatment
R (1) Let the fuel stay in the tanks for between 12 and 24 hours.
