A. General
The causes of fuel leaks are:
-damage of the structure
-damaged or loose fasteners
-incorrect installation of components
-damaged seals, O-rings or sealant.

A. Leakage Routing Analysis
(1)
To find the fuel leak, do the applicable leak test as follows:
-
(Ref. TASK 28-11-00-790-001)
-
(Ref. TASK 28-11-00-790-002)

(Ref. TASK 28-11-00-790-007).
(2)
The fuel leak can show a fuel leakage some distance from the source. You must monitor all the possible leakage flow directions, between the external and the internal leak points.
(3)
When fuel comes through a seal, an O-ring or the sealant the adjacent faying surface becomes a wet area. The wet area extends in all directions, until stopped at a prepacked seal or a faying surface seal. The fuel comes through at the point of least resistance.

B. Leakage Rate Analysis
(1) There are three types of fuel leakage. These are related to flight safety and are identified as follows:
(a) Light leakage:
1_ Dry the area of the leak.
2_ After 10 minutes there is a fuel leak indication that does not go more than 100mm (3.94in.) in any direction.
(b) Heavy leakage:
1_ Dry the area of the leak.
2_ After 10 minutes there is a fuel leak indication that is between 100mm (3.94in.) and 180mm (7.09in.) in any direction.
(c) Continuous leakage:
1_ Dry the area of the leak.
2_ After 10 minutes there is a fuel leak indication that is more than 180mm (7.09in.) in any direction.
