Do the procedure, "Mix the Sealant" from the task, "Correctly Keep and Mix the Sealant".

Make sure all of the fasteners in the area of the sealant repair are installed correctly and that they are tight.


 NOTE: This is not necessary if you must apply the mating
____ surface sealant before the last fastener installation. Usually it is not possible to torque the bolts after you apply the sealant.

 (4)  Immediately before you apply the sealant, clean the surface with BMS 11-7 solvent and dry it.
 NOTE:____Do not permit the solvent to dry on the surface. Do not touch the area with your fingers.

 CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY SEALANT ON A LAYER OF FINISH THAT IS NOT HEAT
_______ CURED (BAKED ON) BMS 10-20, TYPE II. SEALANT WILL NOT STAY IN PLACE IF IT THE PRIMER IS NOT HEAT CURED. THIS CAN CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE.
 (5)  To apply a new fillet seal, do these steps:
 (a)  
Examine the seal area to make sure you have the correct tools for the task.

 (b)  
Apply a precoat of correctly mixed BMS 5-26, Type II, Class A-2 sealant to the surface with a stiff bristled brush (Fig. 804).


 NOTE: BMS 5-26 Type II Class B sealant is used to apply
____ all fillet seals after a precoat of BMS 5-26 Type II Class A-2 sealant. Precoat is not used when you use Pro-Seal 860, B 1/6 sealant. A special primer is used with PR-1826 sealant. Obey the instructions from the manufacturer.
 1)  Make sure you apply the precoat into all holes and cracks and the full length of the area where you will apply the sealant.

 2) Apply the precoat at a width of 0.5 inch on each side of the seams. 3) Make sure the precoat is applied smoothly.
 NOTE: If you let the precoat fully cure, clean with
____ MEK solvent before you apply the fillet seal. It is not necessary to let the precoat cure unless the precoat and the sealant you use for a fillet seal are from different manufacturer product lines. For example, do not use a precoat of BMS 5-26, Type II, Class A-2 with a fillet seal of PR-1826.
 WARNING: DO NOT GET SOLVENTS IN YOUR MOUTH, OR YOUR EYES, OR ON
_______ YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM SOLVENTS. SOLVENTS ARE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. SOLVENTS MAY BE FLAMMABLE OR HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT. REFER TO PRODUCT MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS) AND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER HANDLING PROCEDURES.
 (c)  If you let the precoat cure, clean it with solvent, Series 93 (AMM 20-30-93/201) before you apply the fillet seal.
 NOTE:____It is not necessary to let the precoat cure. You can apply the fillet seal any time after you apply the precoat if they are from the same manufacturer product lines.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU APPLY THE FILLET SEAL CAREFULLY TO PREVENT
_______ AIR BUBBLES IN THE SEALANT. THE FILLET SEAL WILL NOT BOND CORRECTLY IF THERE ARE AIR BUBBLES IN THE SEALANT.
 (d)  Apply a small fillet seal of BMS 5-26, Type II, Class B or Pro-Seal 860, B 1/6 sealant with the sealant gun (Fig. 805). 1) When you use a nozzle tip, point the nozzle end into the
 seam, almost perpendicular to the direction of travel.
 NOTE: Keep a bead of solvent in front of the nozzle end.

Push the first fillet seals tightly into their position with a
 sealant fairing tool (Fig. 806).
 1) Apply all the first fillet seals.
 2) Make sure all sealant fairing tools are clean.
 3) Do not use solutions or lubricants to help the fairing

 tools to move on the sealant. 4) Clean the fairing tools frequently with the clean gauze.If the first fillet seal is dry but is not clean, you must clean it before you apply the second fillet seal.Apply the BMS 5-26, Type II, Class B or Pro-Seal 860, B 1/6 sealant a second time to make a full bodied fillet seal.
