(1) Do the procedure: "Purging (Air Ventilating)" for the applicable tank (Ref 28-10-00/201).

(2) Install the air blower and the flexible hose to give a good flow of air to the area in the tank where you do the maintenance.
(a)
Use the exhaust fan and the hoses to move the exhaust air from the tank to the empty space away from the work area.
(b)
Connect the hoses and the nozzles to an electrical ground (AMM 20-40-11/201).

(3) After you go into the tank, examine these surfaces for fungus or corrosion:
NOTE: Look for a material of a different color, which is
____ usually a brown color or a black color. When the tanks are wet, the fungus is a black, smooth, moist material. When the tanks are dry, the fungus is a solid material on the tank surfaces. It can have a light brown color.

(4) If you find some loose corrosion finish, do these steps to remove it:
(a)
Remove all the loose finish with a wood or plastic scraper.
(b)
Clean the structure with a stainless steel brush that turns or with a wire brush that you hold in your hand.
(c)
Use pressure sensitive tape to do a check for loose finish of the surfaces adjacent to the areas with loose finish. 1) Apply a strip of the pressure sensitive tape to do a test
of the surface.
