 (6)  S 494-009Put the drain valve tool into the drain valve assembly.
 NOTE:____ Make sure the hexagonal surfaces of the tool touch the mating valve surfaces correctly.
 (7)  S 434-010Tighten the valve assembly into the valve boss. (a) Push the tool up to prevent fuel leakage during this procedure. (b) Tighten the drain valve assembly into the valve boss with the drain valve tool. (c) Continue to tighten the valve assembly to a torque of 200 - 300 pound-inches.

 CENTER TANK ACCESS PANEL - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks:
 (1)
A task to remove the access panel for the center tank

 (2)
A task to install the access panel for the center tank.

 B.  An access panel for the center fuel tank lets persons go into the center tank for maintenance. The access opening is in the skin on the bottom of the fuselage (Fig. 401).
 C.  The tank access panel is cast aluminum. It supplies a primary seal which fluids cannot go through. The access panel has a rubber seal installed in a groove on the panel mating surface. A phenolic strip is installed on the outer edge of the panel to prevent damage to the wing skin by friction.
 D.  A clamp ring is used to divide the load equally on the bolts which attach the panel. The clamp ring also gives protection to the outer edge of the skin opening. A bonding jumper electrically grounds the panel to the structure.
 E.  A layer of sealant on the heads of all the bolts supplies a secondary seal. A thin layer of sealant around the inner and the outer edges of the clamp ring also supplies a secondary sealant. You apply this sealant during each installation of the access panels.
 F.  The access panel must have a seal which fuel cannot go through to prevent some fuel leakage on the air conditioning equipment. Some fuel leakage around the clamp ring shows a failure of the primary and the secondary seals. You must repair this leakage immediately.
