Pressure Box Application
S 286-067
(1) To find small leaks where you must apply air pressure for longer times, you can make a pressure box (Fig. 612).
S 286-068
CAUTION: OBEY ALL OF THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN YOU USE THE PRESSURE
_______ BOX. DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE WING CAN OCCUR.
(2) Use the pressure box to apply air pressure to the area of the leak while you obey these safety procedures:
(a)
Do not use more than a maximum pressure of 4 psig (27.6 kPa gage) in the box.
(b)
Do not permit a procedure that causes the wing to be lowered while the box is in its position.
NOTE: For example, do not refuel the fuel tanks or
____
decrease the pressure in the tires.
(c)
Do not lift the box with jacks to a height that will cause damage to the wing.
(d)
Apply air pressure to the box while you apply load to the box
to prevent damage to the wing panel.Dye Injection Procedure
NOTE: To do this procedure, you use a leak tracing device (Fig. 613) to
____ put fuel colored with dye through the external leak point to the leak source in the tank.

A 737-300/400/500MAINTENANCE MANUAL
S 286-076
(1) You can use nonfluorescent red dye in concentrations of a maximum of 2 fluid ounces for each 100 gallons of fuel (15.6 ml for each 100 liters of fuel).
S 286-069
(2) You can also use these items for this procedure to find leaks: (a) Bright green fluorescent dye or bluish white fluorescent dye mixed 1-ounce of dye to 1-gallon of fuel (7.82 ml to 1 liter of fuel). (b) An ultraviolet light.
S 016-070
WARNING: CAREFULLY DO ALL OF THE SAFETY PROCEDURES IN THE PURGING AND
_______ ENTRY PROCEDURE FOR THE FUEL TANK. INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(3)
Do this procedure: Fuel Tank Purging and Entry (AMM 28-10-00/201), for the applicable tank.
S 286-071
(4)
Put the leakage tracing device, F71329, as near as possible to the test area.
S 286-072
(5)
Obey the instructions in the lid of the leakage tracing device to use the items in the box correctly.
(a) If you use a substitute tool, obey the instructions to get a good result.
S 286-073
CAUTION: MONITOR THE DYE CONTAINER GAGE AND THE EQUIPMENT WHILE IT IS IN
_______ ITS POSITION. DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(6)
Monitor the area in the tank where you think the leak is for an indication of dye.
S 286-074
(7)
Continue to apply the dye pressure as long a time as it is necessary to permit the fuel with the dye to go along the leak path.
S 286-075
(8)
When the dye comes into view in the tank, make a mark at that point.
S 286-088
(9)
Find the different leak paths that are possible.
(a) Find the point where the leak path goes through the seal plane.
