 WARNING: DO NOT USE A HEATER OR A BLOWER IF THE COMBUSTIBLE GAS

_______ INDICATOR SHOWS A CONCENTRATION OF 10 PERCENT OR MORE. AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR.
 (4)  When the combustible gas indicator shows a concentration of 10% or less of the lower explosive limit, you can blow warm or cool air into the tank.
 NOTE: It is not necessary to do this step to remove the fuel
____ fumes from the tank. Warm or cool air is only to make it easier to do tasks in the fuel tank.
 (a)  
You must use a blower or a heater that is resistant to explosion.

 (b)  
Blow the warm air or the cool air through the access opening.


 S 492-487 WARNING: DO NOT STOP OR START THE HEATER OR THE BLOWER WHILE THE AIR
_______ HOSE IS IN THE TANK. FUEL FUMES FROM THE TANK CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION AT THE BLOWER OR THE HEATER.

Start the heater or the blower before you put the hose in the tank. S 492-488

Put the heater hose or the blower hose into the fuel tank through the tank access opening.


 S 012-489 WARNING: CONTINUE TO HAVE A GOOD FLOW OF AIR THROUGH THE FUEL TANK WHILE
_______ A PERSON IS IN THE FUEL TANK WITHOUT A RESPIRATOR. A LARGE CONCENTRATION OF FUEL FUMES CAN KILL A PERSON.
 (7)  Do the procedure: "Fuel Tank Entry" for the applicable tank.
 J.  Purging of the Surge Tank
 S 492-490 WARNING: PUT THE AIR MOVER IN A POSITION WHERE THE AIR CAN MOVE FREELY.
_______ IF THE EXHAUST AIR BLOWS IMMEDIATEY ON AN OBJECT, THERE IS STATIC ELECTRICITY. THIS CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION OR A FIRE.
 (1)  Install the air mover on the outer side of the access door.
 (a)  Make sure the air mover is a maximum distance from the airplane (to the limit of the hose length).

 (b)  
Put the mover on a stand with the exhaust horn pointed up.

 (c)  
Electrically ground the air mover to the same ground that you used for the airplane.

 (2)  Open the applicable surge tank access panel, 7101L or 7501R (AMM 28-11-11/401).

 WARNING: IF THERE IS FUEL OR FUEL FUMES IN THE SURGE TANK, REMOVE IT

 (3)  Immediately examine the surge tank for fuel and fuel fumes.
 (a)  Remove the fuel from the surge tank with a sponge.

 (7)  S 972-496Prepare to put the sampling tube into the surge tank. (a) After approximately 30 minutes, do these steps to measure the fuel fume concentration: 1) Stay at the fuel tank access opening. 2) Put the sampling line for the combustible gas indicator a far distance into the tank.
 (8)  S 972-498Use the table below to convert the values on the combustible gas indicator to the actual levels.
