Install the clamp ring and the gasket.
(a)
Put the gasket and the clamp ring in the access panel hole.
(b)
Put the mounting bolts into the holes in the access door.
(c)
Tighten the mounting bolts to a torque between 35-50 pound-inches (3.9-5.6 Newton-meters).
NOTE: Start at the centerline and tighten the mounting bolts
____ equally in both directions (Fig. 403).

(10) On the access panels with the fuel measuring sticks, 7202L or 7402R, 7206L or 7406R, 7208L or 7408R, 7210L or 7410R, and 7212L or 7412R, push the fuel measuring stick fully into the panel (Fig. 401).
NOTE:____This applies to access panels No. 1, 4, 6, 8 and 10. The indexing notches on these panels are on the inboard side of the access hole on the two wings. The No. 10 access panel is two inches smaller than the other panels with fuel measuring sticks.

(11) On the surge tank access panel No. 13, 7101L or 7501R, if the pressure relief valve is open, do these steps:
(a)
Hold the manual reset knob or T-handle and pull it down until the poppet is aligned with the skin.
(b)
Hold the manual reset knob or handle down for 5 seconds.
(c)
Slowly release the manual reset knob or handle to make sure the poppet is locked in the closed position.
(d)
Continue to release the manual reset knob or handle until the return spring retracts the reset knob or handle into the opening.
NOTE: The outer surface of the knob or handle and the poppet
____ must make a smooth surface with the airplane skin.

C. Prepare to Remove Access Panel No. 14

Make sure the airplane is correctly grounded to an approved and identified ground (AMM 20-40-11/201).

Remove all electrical power from the airplane (AMM 24-22-00/201).
(a) Do not connect electical power again until the surge tank is closed and safe.

Disconnect the battery and attach a sign that shows OPEN FUEL TANKS - DO NOT CONNECT.

Make sure there is no remaining fuel in the surge tank.

Open the sump drain valve for the surge tank.
(b)
Let the remaining fuel flow into the container.

(1) Hold the access panel up and remove the mounting screws.

CAUTION:_______DO NOT PUSH THE PANEL FROM THE HOLE WITH A SHARP OBJECT. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO A SURFACE THAT MUST BE TIGHTLY SEALED.
(2) Remove the access panel from the airplane.

Move the access panel away from the gasket seal.
