 (1)
Put the filter element fully into a solution of sodium hydroxide (25% sodium hydroxide weight/volume) for 3 hours.

 (2)
Remove the filter element from the sodium hydroxide, then drain and clean it fully with clean boiling water for 5 minutes.

 (3)
Put the filter element fully into a solution of cold STRIPPERS (Material No. 12-508) (15% concentrated volume/volume).

 (4)
Remove the filter element from the STRIPPERS (Material No. 12-508), drain and clean it fully with clean boiling water for 5 minutes.

 (5)
Flush the filter element in cold destilled water.

 (6)
Dry the filter element with hot air which has a temperature of 100 deg.C (212.00 deg.F) to not more than 110 deg.C (230.00 deg.F) for 15 minutes.

 (7)
After the cleaning procedure, continue to the pressure test.

 G. Pressure Test of the Filter Element
 (1)
Connect the clean filter element to a test adaptor and test rig.

 (2)
Put HYDRAULIC FLUIDS (Material No. 02-002) through the filter element with a flow rate of 6.04 l.min (1.5955 USgal.mn)

 (3)
Make sure that the pressure drop in relation to the temperature of the fluid is not more than written subsequently: -------------------------------------------------------------

Pressure Drop Fluid Temperature -------------------------------------------------------------
9 psi (0.6205 bar) 20 deg C (68 deg F)
 6.5 psi (0.4481 bar) 30 deg C (86 deg F)
 5.1 psi (0.3861 bar) 40 deg C (104 deg F)
 4.1 psi (0.2826 bar) 50 deg C (122 deg F)
 3.4 psi (0.2344 bar) 60 deg C (140 deg F)
 2.7 psi (0.1585 bar) 70 deg C (158 deg F)
 2.2 psi (0.1447 bar) 80 deg C (176 deg F)
 (4)
Discard the filter element if the pressure drop is more than that written above.

 (5)
If it was not necessary to discard the filter element, degrease it again.

 (6)
After the cleaning procedure continue to the bubble test. Subtask 29-22-00-790-050

 H.
Bubble Test of the Filter Element NOTE : This test makes sure that the filter element is in the correct

____
 condition.

 (1)
Attach a test adaptor to the outlet of the filter element.

 (2)
Connect an air supply of low pressure to the adaptor through a filter of the same or better standard as the retained one and a pressure gage.

 (3)
Wet the filter element fully with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-010).

 (4)
Put the filter element in the horizontal position and put it fully into a transparent container which contains CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-010).

 (5)
Make sure that the filter element does not touch the bottom or the sides of the container.

 (6)
Make sure that the fluid above the filter element is not less than 13 mm (0.5118 in.).

 (7)
Put air pressure through the filter element slowly and make sure that the pressure rate is not more than 1.2 hPa (0.0354 in.Hg) per second.

 (8)
Raise the pressure through the filter element slowly and continue up to a pressure of not more than 28 hPa (0.8268 in.Hg) as shown on the pressure gage.

 (9)
Look for any air bubbles that come out of the filter element.

 (10)
If a continuous flow of bubbles come out of the filter element before a pressure of 28 hPa (0.8268 in.Hg) is shown, discard the filter element.

 (11)
Increase the pressure slowly above 28 hPa (0.8268 in.Hg) until a steady flow of air bubbles come from the filter element.

 (12)
Air bubbles must not come from the seal of the adaptor or the welded seams of the filter element. If this happens, discard the filter element.
