PILOT PROCEDURES
NATIONAL PROCEDURES
6-1 GENERAL INFORMATION/FIR/UIR COVERAGE
a. PURPOSE - This chapter outlines standard Pilot Procedures while operating under both Federal Aviation Administration and ICAO control. Deviations to these procedures brought about by theater or individual country requirements can be found in the applicable DoD FLIP, Area Planning (AP 1, 2, 3 and 4). Those items requiring a ready reference while in flight will be found in the applicable Enroute Supplement, Flight Information Handbook, e.g., Radar Beacon Procedures, Position Reporting Procedures, Emergency Procedures, etc.
6-2 AIRSPACE STRUCTURE
a. PROCEDURES IN A CLASS D AIRSPACE - UNITED STATES - Class D Airspace is generally that airspace from the surface to 2500 feet (above airport elevation, charted in Mean Sea Level), that lies above an airport that has an operating Control Tower. It does not have specific lateral dimensions, but rather is individually tailored and will normally encompass published Instrument Approach Procedures.
