5. Test

A. Manual Test When you press the (PTT) pushbutton switch for more than 2 s a test of the smoke detectors is initiated. The CIDS-SDF does a test of the smoke detectors automatically. The smoke warning signals and indications come on twice. The system also passes the test, when the lamps come on once, that is in case of a failure of one CIDS-SDF channel. The related SMOKE warning light does not come on, if both smoke detectors, installed in one cavity, do not operate, and the test failed. When the PTT pushbutton is pressed, the isolation valves of the cargo-compartment ventilation-system close and the extraction fan stops (Ref. 21-28-00). When the PTT pushbutton is released and the test stops, the isolation valves open and the extraction fan starts. The information is stored in the Centralized Fault Display System (CFDS).
B. Smoke Warning Test On ground, SMOKE WARN TESTS can be selected on the SDCU menu of the MCDU. A submenu with SMK DET FWD LDCC TEST and SMK DET AFT LDCC TEST is displayed. A test for the FWD cargo smoke detectors or for the AFT cargo smoke detectors can be selected by the line key. During the test the CIDS-SDF sends a test request to the cargo smoke detectors via the CAN bus. If the relative smoke detectors are operative they transmit a test-alarm information to the CIDS-SDF and the cockpit indications (SMOKE warning light, chime and master warning, ECAM message) come on. The test finishes when all indications are confirmed or when the MCDU line key RETURN is selected. If a cargo ventilation system is installed, the isolation valves are in the open position before the test starts. The valves close when the SMOKE condition is simulated. The valves remain in the close position. After a reset of the ventilation controller the isolation valves open again.
