R R The fire and overheat detection-system of the APU is detailed in ATA R chapter 26-13-00.
B. Smoke Detection
Smoke detectors are used to detect the visible and invisible combustion particles.
When the preset threshold is reached, the smoke detector triggers a warning via the Smoke Detection Control Unit (SDCU).
(1) Avionics compartment
In the avionics compartment, the smoke detection system is provided
with one smoke detector.
The smoke detector is installed on the ventilation air-extraction
duct.
When the warning is triggered, the crew members must initiate the
smoke procedure.
The avionics-compartment smoke-detection system is detailed in ATA chapter 26-15-00.
(2) Cargo Compartment
In the cargo compartment, there are ambient smoke detectors. They function in pairs to prevent spurious smoke warnings.
When a warning is triggered, the corresponding ventilation and heating system closes automatically.
The cargo-compartment smoke-detection system is detailed in ATA chapter 26-16-00.
(3) Lavatories Each lavatory is equipped with one smoke detector. The lavatory smoke-detection system is detailed in ATA chapter
26-17-00.
ENGINE FIRE AND OVERHEAT DETECTION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
______________________________________________________________
1. General_______
A fire can be due to excessive overheat or flammable fluid leaks and can endanger the aircraft safety.
Thermo-sensitive elements detect fire or overheat conditions. They trigger the fire warnings by means of the Fire Detection Unit (FDU) when the temperature reaches the threshold of the monitored area of the engine.
The ENG/APU FIRE panel (1WD) includes the controls, indications and a test function for each engine.
In the section of this panel related to the engine fire detection, two functions are available:
-
a FIRE warning which comes on red on the ENG 1(2) FIRE pushbutton switch after a positive fire detection,
-
a manual test capability of the system.
The components of the fire detection system of the engine are:
-two fire detection loops installed in parallel in the fire zones and connected to a Fire Detection Unit (FDU). Each fire detection loop comprises three detectors connected in parallel,
- one FDU per engine, which processes signals from the detectors,
-an ENG/APU FIRE panel on the overhead panel with per engine:
. one ENG FIRE pushbutton switch,
. one TEST pushbutton switch,
-associated warnings and indications.
NOTE : For APU see ATA chapter 26-13-00.
