This design ensures redundancy of the fire extinguisher bottle percussion system.
The firing current is approximately 5A.

C. Fire Extinguishing Distribution System (Ref. Fig. 005)
The distribution system for each engine comprises:
-two fire extinguisher bottles
-rigid lines
-nozzles.
The extinguishers are connected to a stainless steel rigid pipe. The fire
extinguishing circuit is routed in the primary structural box of the
engine pylon up to rib 1.
From rib 1 the line is divided into two segments directed to the engine
core and fan compartments.
(1) Core compartment
From rib 1, the core segment is routed between the two lower arms of the pyramid that hold the engine forward mount.
The dimensions of the line are:
-dia.: 0.625 in. (15.8 mm),
-thickness: 0.032 in. (0.813 mm).
The end of the fire extinguishing line which is above the combustion chamber, has a three-oulet nozzle: two symmetrical jets and the end itself is blanked with a metal disc pierced in its center with a hole (see view C).
This three-outlet nozzle sprays the core compartment.
(2) Fan compartment
From rib 1, the fan segment is routed below the upper spar of the engine pylon up to the upper section of the fan frame.
The dimensions of the line are:
-dia.: 0.75 in. (19 mm),
-thickness: 0.04 in. (1.016 mm).
The fire extinguishing line has two symmetrical nozzles at rib 03.
From rib 02, the line is divided into two symmetrical segments, each ending with a nozzle at rib 01.
All 4 nozzles spray the fan compartment.

7. Operation/Control and Indicating________________________________
A. Operation of the Fire Extinguishing system
The FIRE warning signals generated by the fire detection unit (FDU) are transmitted to the cockpit, at the following locations:
-ENG/APU FIRE panel (1WD): ENG 1(2) FIRE pushbutton switch
-ENG MASTER control panel (115VU): ENG/FIRE/FAULT annunciator
-MASTER WARN light
-ECAM: ENG 1(2) FIRE and fire extinguishing procedure
-SD: engine page.
The Continuous Repetitive Chime (CRC) sounds.
When you push the ENG 1(2) FIRE pushbutton switch, you arm the cartridge firing system. The SQUIB legend (white) comes on after this action. At the same time the engine is isolated and the CRC is stopped.
During the extinguishing procedure, the extinguishing agent flows in the rigid pipes and is immediately sprayed in the engine protected zones: fan and core compartments.
The DISCH legend (amber) comes on when the fire extinguisher bottle is completely discharged.
NOTE : The ENG 1(2) FIRE pushbutton switch is come on as long as the FIRE
____ warning is generated by the fire detection unit (FDU).
Thirty seconds later (after the first bottle disharged), if the fire is still present, the pilot fires the second bottle.

B. Fire Extinguishing Procedure
The list of actions to be done during the fire extinguishing procedure comes into view automatically on the ECAM display unit at the same time as the FIRE warnings.
As soon as the required actions are done, the corresponding line is cancelled automatically on the ECAM display unit.
The following procedure must be applied:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------DISPLAY ACTIONS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-ENG 1 FIRE LAND ASAP
(2)
-THR LEVER 1.........IDLE . Throttle control lever in the Idle position
(2)
-
ENG MASTER 1.........OFF . ENG/MASTER switch in the OFF position, which:
