WARNING: DO NOT HOLD THE CORE COWL PANELS OPEN WITH THE HOLD-OPEN RODS

IF THE WIND VELOCITY IS MORE THAN 60 KNOTS. THE HOLD-OPEN ROD
CAN HAVE A FAILURE IN HIGH WINDS WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: HOLD THE CORE COWL PANEL OPEN WHEN YOU REMOVE THE HOLD-OPEN ROD

FROM THE ENGINE. THE RIGHT COWL PANEL WEIGHS 110 POUNDS. THE
LEFT COWL PANEL WEIGHS 130 POUNDS. IF THE CORE COWL PANEL
FALLS, INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
(1) Retract and put the hold-open rod in the stow position.
NOTE: Make sure the latch for the hold-open rod points to the
____ forward direction (Refer to 747-400 SB 71-2233 and 747-400 MT 71-008).
(a)
Manually hold the core cowl panel.
(b)
Remove the hold-open rod from the receiver bracket on the engine.
(c)
Push the latch and install the hold-open rod in the stow bracket on the core cowl panel.

Close the core cowl panel.

Close the latches on the bottom of the core cowl panel.

Make sure the latch handles are smooth with the outer surface of the core cowl panel.
