 (26) If the engine is to be put in storage, do the drying procedure for the bearing compartment (AMM 71-00-03/201) (optional).
 NOTE: Water can condense in the engine bearing compartments both
____ during and after the flight where the engine is ferried. This occurs because of temperature and pressure changes and can cause corrosion on parts of the bearings. If the engine turns freely, the engine will be lubricated sufficiently to decrease the possible damage. You must do the drying procedure for the bearing compartment in areas of high humidity.

ENGINE COWLING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The engine cowling is an aerodynamically smooth surface for protection on the outer side of the engine, engine-mounted components, and accessories. The engine cowling controls airflow around and through the engine, and gives access to different areas of the engine and fan case. The description of the engine cowling is given in this section. The exhaust system components are shown for reference only. For more data on the exhaust system components, see Turbine Exhaust System - Description and Operation (Ref 78-11-00/001) and Thrust Reverser System - Description and Operation (Ref 78-31-00/001).
 B.  The cowling for each engine includes the inlet cowl, fan cowl panels and core cowl panels (Fig. 1).
 2.  Inlet Cowl (Fig. 2)

 A.  The inlet cowl is installed on the forward flange of the engine fan case and is used to permit airflow to the engine with minimum drag.
 B.  The inlet cowl is an aluminum structure with a honeycomb core acoustical lining, and kevlar-graphite/nomex honeycomb external panels. The approximate dimensions and weight of the inlet cowl are: 114 inches (290 cm) in diameter, 56 inches (142 cm) in length and a weight of 665 pounds (302 kgs).
