Engine Preservation - Method I (8 to 30 days)

(1) Make sure the engine was operated in the last seven (7) days.
(a) If the engine was not operated in the last seven days, do the Periodic Engine Run.

Make sure the engine oil system is serviced full (AMM 12-13-01/301) or drain the engine oil with the steps in the Oil System Preservation procedure.

Install covers on all engine openings.
(a) Install a cover on the engine inlet.

Install a cover on the engine exhaust duct.

Seal all openings at the bottom of the fan cowl panels, core cowl panels and thrust reversers.

Store the engine away from direct exposure to the elements in a hanger equipment shed, or similar building, or cover with a tarp or plastic closed on all sides.

Engine Preservation - Method II (31 to 90 days)

(1) Make sure the engine was operated in the last seven (7) days.
(a) If the engine was not operated in the last seven days, do the Periodic Engine Run.

Drain the oil from the engine with the steps in the Oil System Preservation procedure.

Install covers on all engine openings.
(a)
Install a cover on the engine inlet.
(b)
Install a cover on the engine exhaust duct.
(c)
Seal the engine in a shipping bag or equivalent.

NOTE: The engine run must be of sufficient duration and power setting to

(1) Use the Power Plant Operation (Normal) procedure to start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(a) Let the engine become stable at minimum idle for five minutes.
