NOTE: You should extend the lever hoists, if possible, if
____ you have to make subsequent sling adjustments. This causes lighter loads during the adjustments.
1) Make sure the free end of the chain is in the chain keeper, if installed.
NOTE: If the chain keeper is not installed, make sure
____ the free end of the chain does not touch the engine.
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO CONTROL THE SLING WITHOUT TAG LINES.
_______ WITHOUT THE TAG LINES, THE SLING WILL PULL TOGETHER AT THE AFT END AND MAKE THE ENGINE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE OR AIRPLANE.
(d)
Attach the tag lines to the sling.
(e)
Engage the crane hook (1) with the sling hoist plate, or dynamometer or load positioner if installed, and put the sling over the engine.
(f)
Align each forward support leg (7) with the forward handling
adapter (19, Fig. 409) and install a shackle.
(g)
Align each aft support leg (8) on each aft handling adapter
(14, Fig. 409) and install a shackle.
(h)
Install the protection pads.
(i)
Remove the slack from the support legs of the sling.

(5) Disconnect the engine mounts with the steps that follow (Fig. 411):
CAUTION:_______DO NOT EXCEED THE SPECIFIED LOAD. DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE OR THE AIRPLANE STRUCTURE CAN OCCUR.
(a) Adjust the crane and sling to apply an upward load to the strut of 1500 pounds minimum to 4000 pounds maximum.
NOTE: The load should include the engine weight plus the
____
weight of the ground support equipment.
(b)
Install the deep socket and the torque adapter of the torque equipment (A71003) on the forward or aft vertical tension bolts (1, 2 or 12).
(c)
Loosen the forward and aft vertical tension bolts (1, 2,
and 12) one-half turn.
NOTE:____The load cell indications must not change. Make sure there is a distance between the engine mounts and the strut.
1) If the load cell indications increase, make sure the indications are less than the maximum permitted value.
2) If there is clearance between the engine mounts and the strut, slowly add force to the forward or aft hoists to remove the clearance.
NOTE: The sling and crane should hold the engine in
____ the same position while the bolts are removed.
(d) Loosen the forward and aft vertical tension bolts (1, 2,
and 12) another one-half turn.
NOTE:____The load cell indications must not change. Make sure there is not a distance between the engine mounts and the strut.
1) If the load cell indications increase, make sure the indications are less than the maximum permitted value.
2) If there is clearance between the engine mounts and the strut, slowly add force to the forward or aft hoists to remove the clearance.
(e) Remove the vertical tension bolts (1, 2, and 12) and washers (3 and 11). 1) The engine must be held by the hoists. 2) Make sure there is not a distance between the engine mounts
and the strut.

(6) Lower the engine and attach it to the cradle and transportation stand with the steps that follow:
WARNING:_______KEEP THE WORK STANDS AND PERSONS AWAY FROM THE STRUT. THE ENGINE CAN MOVE WITH RELATION TO THE STRUT WHEN THE SHEAR PINS ARE AWAY FROM THE STRUT. IF THE PERSONS AND WORK STANDS ARE NOT AWAY FROM THE STRUT, INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(a)
Slowly and equally lower the forward hoists until the forward shear pins are away from the strut.
