INLET COWL - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. The first task removes the inlet cowl. The second task installs the inlet cowl.
 B.  The removal and installation procedures are done with a crane that has a minimum capacity of 900 pounds (409.1 Kg). You must use a dynamometer in the hoist configuration unless the crane includes an adjustable load limiter. A load limiter is necessary to prevent large forces on the hoist when the inlet cowl is attached to the engine.
 C.  The inlet cowl sling has three hoists, adjustable straps, and a sling link. These adjustment tools let the inlet cowl turn around the longitudinal and lateral axes and move vertically while hung.
 D.  After removal, the inlet cowl is put in storage in the nose up or nose down position as necessary. For storage, you must equally hold the leading edge or the mounting flange on wooden supports with pads or sandbags. If kept in the nose up position, you must prepare the thermal anti-ice (TAI) duct to prevent damage. You must put the supports on a pallet or wheeled platform to make it easier to move.
