(a) Remove the contamination from the scavenge screen.
NOTE:____ Isolate the metal contamination from the contamination
that is not metal.
(b) Use a clean cloth and fiber pusher to remove the contamination
from the lube unit MCD's and from the oil tank MCD's (if
equipped).
WARNING:_______USE SOLVENT ONLY IN AREAS OPEN TO THE AIR. DO NOT BREATHE THE GASES FROM THE SOLVENT. DO NOT USE THE SOLVENT NEAR A DANGEROUS AREA. DO NOT LET THE SOLVENT TOUCH YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU FAIL TO OBEY THIS WARNING, INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
(c)
Carefully flush the oil from the scavenge screen and the oil tank MCD plug with solvent.
(d)
Use a magnifying glass to examine the contamination.
NOTE: Metal contamination can be an indication of distress
____ of the parts in the oil lubricated parts of the engine. In the time since the last maintenance, the MCD's can collect material not related to engine parts, such as:
-Shot peen material of approximately 0.008 inch
(0.29 mm)
-Tool parts
-Machine particles
NOTE: A small amount of contamination on the MCD is normal.
____ If these documents are available, refer to the CFMI NDTM, Part 10, and the CFMI Tooling Chip Detector Photographs, 856A1364G02, for appropriate actions to take based on the debris identification.
1) If you can identify the contamination material, do the steps that follow: a) If you find bearing material on the forward or aft sump
MCD, replace the engine (AMM 71-00-02/401).

If you find bearing material on the Accessory Gearbox (AGB) or Transfer Gearbox (TGB) sump MCD, examine these areas: 1 Do an inspection of the roller bearing for the
_ bevel gear (AMM 72-62-01/601).
a. If the roller bearing for the input bevel gear
_ is damaged, replace the TGB (AMM 72-62-02/401).
b. If the roller bearing for the input bevel gear
_
is not damaged, replace the engine
(AMM 71-00-02/401).
2 Do a check for bearing cage rivets.
_ NOTE: This material is an indication of damage to
____
the TGB or AGB bearing.
a. If you find bearing cage rivets, do an
_ inspection of both the TGB (AMM 72-62-01/601) and the AGB (AMM 72-63-01/601).
3 Do a check for bearing cage material on the aft
_ sump MCD.
a. If you find bearing cage material, the No. 4
_ Bearing must be replaced at the next shop maintenance.
4 Do a check for tab washer pieces.
_ NOTE: This material is an indication of damage to
____
the TGB tab washer.
a. If you find tab washer pieces, do an inspection
_ of the TGB (AMM 72-62-01/601). 5 Do a check for pieces of aluminum from the screen
