(3) The differential amplifier picks up the bridge circuit signal from the power supply and drives the indicator motor and the attached pointer. The bridge circuit keeps the pointer position and provides for pointer adjustment.
B. AIRPLANES WITH THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS); Refer to the data that follows:
(1)
The indicating system is operational when 28 volts ac is supplied to the Secondary Engine and Hydraulics Display from the P6-2 circuit breaker panel. Display lighting is 5 volts ac.
(2)
The oil quantity transmitter acts as a variable capacitor. The level of oil in the transmitter tube establishes a dielectric value between the inner and outer tube. The dielectric value between the tubes determines the capacitance and establishes an indicator bridge signal. The compensator probe measures the dielectric constant of the oil such that the capacitance is independant of temperature or the type of oil used.
(3)
A microprocessor processes the signal from the transmitter for display on the Secondary Engine and Hydraulics Display.

OIL QUANTITY INDICATING SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains an operational test, a system test for the oil quantity indication system and a calibration adjustment for the oil quantity indicators with oil in the oil tank.
(1)
You can do the operational test when there is power supplied to the airplane.
(a) It will make sure the system operates correctly and that the tank is full.
(2)
The system test will make sure the system is accurate.
(a)
The system test drains the oil tank and adds known quantities of oil to the tank.
(b)
AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS); The system test adjusts the full and empty pointer.
(3)
AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS); Calibrate the oil quantity indicator with oil in the tank.
(a)
Do the oil quantity indicating system adjustment/test to make sure the oil tank unit, indicator and system wiring are all ok.
(b)
Adjustment of the indicator after the installation is necessary to correct for differences in the tank unit capacitance and for wire capacitance.
