 EXCESSIVE OIL LOSS DURING ENGINE OPERATION AND POSSIBLE ENGINE
 FAILURE.

 (3)  
Make sure the groove on the magnetic plug is clean.

 (4)  
Install a new O-ring, lubricated with engine oil, in the groove on
 the magnetic plug.

 (5)  
Push the spring-loaded pin and install the scavenge screen on the
 magnetic plug.

 (6)  
Make sure the spring-loaded pin engages the hole in the scavenge screen.

Install the MCD removal/installation tool on the magnetic plug.

 (a)  
Push the spring-loaded lever to retract locking pin.

 (b)  
Install the end of the tool with slots on the handle on the magnetic plug.

 (c)  
Release the spring-loaded lever to engage the locking pin through the hole in the magnetic plug handle.

 (d)  
Pull down on the tool to make sure it is correctly engaged.

 (8)  Carefully put the MCD into the lubrication unit.
 NOTE: Make sure the MCD goes in straight to prevent damage to the
____
 scavenge screen.

Align the bayonet pins with the slots of the bayonet housing on the lubrication unit.

 Push the magnetic chip detector in and turn it clockwise one quarter turn.


 (a)  Make sure the pin moves into the locked position.

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE CHIP DETECTOR PLUGS ARE CORRECTLY INSTALLED
_______ WITH THE TWO BAYONET PINS ENGAGED. MAKE SURE THAT THE RED STRIPES ON EACH CHIP DETECTOR PLUG (WITH CFMI SB 79-012) ARE CLEARLY SEEN THROUGH THE SLOTS OF THE CHIP DETECTOR HOUSING. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE OIL LOSS DURING ENGINE OPERATION AND A POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE.
 (11) Do a check of the magnetic chip detector for correct installation as follows:
 (a)  The three plug handles must be aligned and in the locked position.

(b)  ENGINE POST-CFMI-SB 79-012; Make sure you can see the red marks on the plug through the slots of the bayonet housing.
 NOTE: CFMI SB 79-012 introduced MCD plugs with colored
____ markings to help with correct installation.

 BAR IS NOT CLOSED, AN INCORRECTLY INSTALLED MCD CAN EJECT,
 AND CAUSE OIL LOSS DURING ENGINE OPERATION, AND A POSSIBLE

 ENGINE FAILURE.
 (a)  ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 79-054; ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB-79-055; Move the retention bar down until it snaps into its self-locking position (Fig. 201).
