OIL PRESSURE INDICATING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General

A. The oil pressure indicating system provides a visual indication of pressure measured in the engine oil distribution system. The oil pressure indicating system consists of the oil pressure transmitter and the oil pressure indication.
2. Oil Pressure Transmitter (Fig. 1)

A. The oil pressure transmitter is a variable reluctance type using a pressure sensitive diaphragm coupled to a transformer. The oil pressure transmitter is connected to a pressure tap on the forward sump oil supply tube and the TGB (transfer gear box) vent. It is mounted at the 9:30 o'clock position on the fan case just below the fuel flow transmitter.
3. Oil Pressure Indication (Fig. 1)

A. AIRPLANES WITH OIL TEMPERATURE INDICATORS; (AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS)); Two oil pressure indicators, one for each engine are located on the pilots' center instrument panel, P2. Each indicator is an air tight unit containing a receiver, motor and gear train. A pointer is attached to the gear train. The indicator face is calibrated from 0 to 100 psig.
B. AIRPLANES WITH THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS); The oil pressure indication provides a dial/pointer display of the oil pressure. Two displays, one for each engine are located on the pilots' center instrument panel, P2, as part of the Secondary Engine Hydraulics Display. The dial face is calibrated from 0 to 100 psig with the following ranges:
-Red Line 13 psig
-Amber 13 to 26 psig
-Green 26 to 87 psig
4. Operation (Fig. 2)

A. AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS);
Refer to the data that follows:

28 volts ac power is supplied to the oil pressure indicating system from the P6-2 circuit breaker panel. Indicator lighting is 5 volts ac.
(2)
At the transmitter, oil pressure acts on the diaphragm which moves an armature between two coils changing the reluctance. The induced reluctance signal is picked up by the receiver in the indicator and positions the indicator motor. The pointer, coupled to the motor through the drive train displays the pressure reading on the dial face.
