Examine the scavenge oil filter assembly for damage.

 (a)  
Cracks in all areas are not permitted. 1) If there are cracks, replace the assembly.

 (b)  
Dents, gouges or scratches on the sealing faces are not permitted. 1) If there are dents, gouges or scratches on the sealing

 


 faces, replace the assembly.

Examine the scavenge oil filter assembly for signs of leaks.

 (a)  
If there is a leak between the filter bowl and filter head, replace the O-ring on the edge of the filter bowl (AMM 79-21-04/401).

 (b)  
If there is a leak between the clogging indicator and the filter head, remove the clogging indicator and replace the O-rings (2 locations).

 (c)  
If there is a leak from a blanking plug, replace the applicable O-ring.

 

 (4)  
Close the left fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).

OIL QUANTITY INDICATING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The oil quantity indicating system gives a visual indication of the usable oil quantity in each engine oil tank. The system consists of the oil quantity transmitter and the oil quantity indication.
 2.  Oil Quantity Transmitter (Fig. 1)

 A.  The oil quantity transmitter is a variable capacitance type. Two concentric tubes form the plates of the capacitor. The inner tube is profiled varying the distance between the tubes to make allowances for variations in tank cross-sectional area. A compensator probe is found at the bottom of the transmitter.
 3.  Oil Quantity Indication (Fig. 1)

 A.  AIRPLANES WITH OIL TEMPERATURE INDICATORS;
 (AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS));
 Refer to the data that follows:

 (1)  
The oil quantity indicator consists of an illuminated dial face, a position pointer and an amplifier-bridge assembly. The amplifier-bridge assembly consists of an amplifier, a bridge circuit, a power supply circuit and an indicator motor.

 (2)  
Two oil quantity indicators, one for each engine are located on the pilot's center instrument panel, P2.


 B.  AIRPLANES WITH THE ENGINE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM (EIS); The oil quantity indication shows a percentage of full capacity from zero to 100%. Two oil quantity indicators, one for each engine are located on the pilots' center instrument panel, P2, as part of the Secondary Engine and Hydraulics Display.
