4. Captain’s and First Officer’s Seats (Fig. 2)
A. Seats are opposite assemblies and include base, seat bottom, seat back, support linkage, inertia shoulder harness, crotch strap, and lap belt with rotary buckle; some airplanes have power actuation equipment.
B. The base is bolted to the floor and supports the seat bottom and back.
C. A metal pan forms main structure of seat bottom. A covered cushion is fastened to the pan.
D. A metal frame forms main structure of seat back. A covered cushion is fastened to the frame. The back cushion is made of a buoyant material and is certified as an individual flotation device. It can be easily removed and used as a life vest. Angle of seat back can be adjusted independently of the bottom.
E. The seat can be manually adjusted fore and aft, and up and down; angles of seat back and bottom can also be independently varied.
F. On airplanes so equipped, electrical power is available for up and down adjustment but such adjustments can also be made manually.
G. On airplanes with handwheels for seat lumbar adjustment, a stop bracket attached to P-18 panel prevents excessive aft movement of captain's seat back.
WARNING: STOP BRACKET MUST REMAIN CORRECTLY INSTALLED TO ENSURE AGAINST UNSCHEDULED ACTUATION OF SWITCHES, CAUSED BY INTERFERENCE OF CAPTAIN'S SEAT.
5. Lightshield
A. The lightshield is under windshield and over main instrument panels.
B. A glass fiber plastic hood and a sheet metal framework form main structure of lightshield. A crash pad is cemented to the aft edge of the hood. Three small instrument panel sections are fastened to the middle of aft edge. A check list holder is fastened to top of hood. Lamp sockets and reflectors are fastened to underside of lightshield to illuminate instrument panels. Top of lightshield has a coat of nonreflecting coating.
6. Forward and Aft Electronic Control Panels
A. The forward electronic control panel is forward of control stand. Panel face slopes somewhat with respect to horizontal plane. Several small panel sections and weather radar indicator make up the panel.
B. The aft electronics control panel is on top of control stand and aft of throttle levers. Panel face lies in horizontal plane. Several small panel sections make up the panel.
C. Lightplates form the faces of the panel sections that are not blank. Each section is held to the support framework by quick-release fasteners.
