ESCAPE SLIDE ASSEMBLY (DOOR-MOUNTED) - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. General
A. Each escape slide assembly consists of an escape slide package, an escape slide compartment and two floor brackets. Escape slide package is stowed in escape slide compartment fastened to lower inboard face of forward entry door, forward service door and aft service door. Floor brackets are located at forward and aft ends of doorways inboard of door sill.
B. Escape slide package consists of an escape slide, a detachable girt, a girt bar, an air bottle and a valise. Air bottle holds high-pressure gas for inflating slide. Valise holds slide in its folded (stowed) position, which opens to free and deploy slide.
C. Escape slide detachable girt and a mooring line enables use of slide as a supplementary floatation device after airplane ditching. Separation of slide from girt is accomplished by lifting a flap and pulling on ditching handle. Detachable girt may be replaced (when damaged or soiled) without complete repacking of slide.
2. Operation (Fig. 1)
A. Escape slide girt bar is stowed in retainers on compartment cover. When it is desired to use slide, girt bar is removed from retainers and installed in floor brackets. Opening door will then pull escape slide package out of compartment. Escape slide inflates automatically as slide deploys. A manual inflation handle is furnished, which can be used if automatic inflation system should fail.
