THRUST REVERSER OPENING MECHANISM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_____________________________________________________________
1. General
_______ (Ref. Fig. 001) The two thrust reverser half cowls can be opened separately, using a hand pump. Opening of the thrust reverser half cowl provides access to the systems and components mounted in the engine core section.
2. Cowl Latch
__________ (Ref. Fig. 002, 003) Four tension hook latches along the lower edge of the cowls, maintain the reverser halves in the closed position. These latches are accessible without opening any access panel and can be ajusted without opening the C-ducts.
3. Adapter Ring
____________ (Ref. Fig. 004) Two adapter rings are bolted to the engine fan frame inner and outer flanges. The adapter ring attached to the engine fan frame inner flange interfaces with a seal on the forward face of the thrust reverser inner duct. The adapter ring attached to the engine fan frame outer flange forms a "V" groove. A "V" blade installed on the forward face of the thrust reverser forward frame engages this "V" groove when the thrust reverser doors are closed.
4. Cowl Opening Actuator
_____________________ (Ref. Fig. 005) There are two hydraulic actuators, located between the pylon and the two half reversers. They are single-acting hydraulic actuator. They are supplied with a hand pump connected to the connection box on the lower section of the forward frame.
A. Description/Operation The two hydraulic actuators are located between the pylon and the two half reversers. Each half reverser is actuated by a single-acting hydraulic actuator. They are fluid supplied by a hand pump which can be connected to the connection box on the lower section of the forward frame. The input power is transmitted from the pump through hard line tubes and a hose to hydraulic actuator. A door hold-open rod, located on the engine mounted adapter ring assembly, is to be used with the door opening actuator. The system is put to return to retract hydraulic actuators under thrust reverser weight action. The orifice of the hydraulic actuator chamber rectricts the fluid flow, limiting the rate of retraction of the hydraulic actuator rod.

E E Feb 01/98 E E ECES E The thrust reverser half doors can be opened to a 45 degree position for engine removal. A placard at the door opening actuator connection point warns that the wing leading edge slat must be in the retracted position when the thrust reverser half doors are opened. The external thrust reverser half doors can be opened to 35 degrees position. The internal half door can be opened to 33 degrees position with the wing leading slats extended.

5. Maintenance
___________ (Ref. Fig. 006, 007) Thrust reverser actuation system can be made inoperative (as a safety procedure when personnel are working around the blocker doors or in order to dispatch an aircraft with inoperative thrust reverser) by using the inhibition feature incorporated in the thrust reverser HCU. Installation of an inhibition pin to lock the HCU lever in the inhibited position will prevent hydraulic pressure from being delivered to the thrust reverser latches and actuators ; therefore making the reverser inoperative (the fan cowl must be open). As an additional lockout feature when dispatching an aircraft with an inoperative thrust reverser, blocker door lockout pins are provided to secure the door in the stowed position. A readable warning on the middle of each door informs maintenance people of the potential hazard created by an inadvertent deployment of the doors.
