7. Fuel Quantity System Calibration Tests and Adjustments
The complete calibrationtests require that the aircraft be level both longitudinally and laterally, and that both the dry and wet calibration tests be accomplished.
(a) Dry Calibration Procedure:
(1.) Completely drain fuel system.
(2.) Ensure that fuel quantity circuit breaker located on the essential busis pushed in.
(3.) Ensure that all fuel distribution circuit breakers are pushed in.
(4.) Ensure that battery master switch is off. Ensure that fuel crossfeed switch is off.
(5.) Connect external power unit to aircraft. Set voltage on external power unit 27 ± 3 Vdc.
Turnexternalpower switch on overhead switch panel to ON position. (6.) Disconnectleft fuel system wiring harness from fuel quantity indicator. (7.) Connect interface harness (RagenP/N 89-174-1) with adapter harnesses (refer to 28-40-
00 Figure 501). Ensure that correct adapter harnessesare used with respect to testing the left and right fuel systems (see miscellaneous section of parts catalog for
equipment correct part numbers).
NOTE: An alternate interfaceharness (Ragen P/N 89-2241) may be used for this calibrationcheck without the use of the adapter harnessesas mentioned above (refer to 28-40-00 Figure 501).
(8.) Connect respective cables to fuel quantity indicator, main harness, and fuel calibration test set (refer to 28-40-00 Figure 501). (9.) Set NORM/MEAS switch and NORM/SIM switchon interface harness to NORM position. This ensures that fuel quantity system will operate normally. (10.) Set test switches on fuel calibration test set as follows (refer to 28-40-00 Figure 502):
(a.) Set CAP/VOM switchto CAP position.
(b.) Set AC/DC switch to DC position.
(c.) Set MEAS/SIM switch to MEAS position.
(d.) Set MEAS INT/MEAS EXTswitch to MEAS INT position.
(e.) Set TU/COMP switch to TU position.
(f.) Set NORM/CAL switch to CAL position.
(g.) Set ADD/OFF switchto OFF position.
NOTE: Do not touch DC CAL knob after setting value given in step (11.). Adjusting DC CAL knob will cause inaccuracywith remainder of calibration procedureand require that the procedure be repeated.
(11.) Let fuel calibration testset warm up for 15 minutes. Set calibration by turning DC CAL knob to value on fuel calibration placard(locatedinsidelid of fuel calibration test set).
