5. Removalof ElevatorControlCables(Figure401)
Thecablesystemfor elevator primarycontrolsrunsfromthe forward controlsectoratF.S.93.3,
underpilotseat,to aft sectoratF.S.373.10.Theforwardup cable, attachedto right sideof sector, is routed to left side of aircraft andaroundpulleyat F.S. 101.07.The cable isthenroutedthroughleftside of fuselageandspar carry throughtoa second pulleyat F.S.153.35,whereit turns toward pulleyat F.S.193.72at center ofaircraft.Fromthirdpulley,it travels straightthroughfuselage centerto fourth pulleyat F.S.278.0,whereitanglesupto turnbuckle at F.S.322.5.Theaft up
cableisroutedthroughfairleadin aft pressurebulkheadthroughpulleysatF.S.355.75and366.0 andto aft controlsector.Theforwarddowncable,attachedto left side of forward controlsector,is mountedsimilartoup cable withpulleysat F.S. 112.47,160.2,and200.98,andturnbuckleat F.S.
270.0.The aft downcabletravelsfromturnbucklethroughpulleyat F.S.278.0,fairleadin aft pressurebulkhead,andpulleyonbulkheadaheadofaft control sector.Toremovecables,proceedas follows:
(a) Thefollowingproceduremustbe used to remove forwardelevatorcables:
(1.) RemovepilotseatandleftpassengerseatsfromF.S.135.to 203.0 andfloorpanels necessaryto gain accessto pulleys andturnbuckles. (2.) Markend of cable to be removedto facilitate installation.Disconnectcablefrom
tumbuckle. (3.) After detachingcablefrom turnbuckle, attach20 foot leaderlineto cable end. (4.) Removecableguardpinsfromrequired pulleys. Disconnectcables from forwardsector. (5.) Frombehindpulleysat F.S.101.07,carefullypullcablesinsideaircraftso enough leader
lineexistsforreinstallation.
(b)Toremoveaft elevator controlcables,proceedas follows:
(1.) RemovecenterflooraccesspanelsfromF.S.265.0back to aft pressurebulkhead.
Accesspanelsontail and tail cone(stinger). (2.) Followsteps(a)(2.), (a) (3.),and (a)(4.) to removecablesfromaftsector. (3.) Reachthroughaftaccessopeningonfuselage,work cables forwardthroughslotted
bulkhead,and pull cablesfromaircraftensuringleaderlinelaysin path ofremovedcable. (4.) Disconnectleaderlines.

6. Installationof Elevator Control Cables (Figure 401)
NOTE:Use cables and sectors marked with red paint to facilitate and assureproper installation of elevatorup cables. Verify that red ball end of cable is attachedto appropriate red corner of sector and red terminal end of cable is attached to turnbuckle with adjoining up cable also having red terminal end.
(a) Forward control cables, running from forward control sector to tumbuckles at Fuselage Station
270.0and 322.5, are installed as follows:
(1.) Behind forward sector,tie leader line onto cable swaged terminal end, an from (aft cable) turnbucklepositionorend of leader line, pull leader and cable throughaircraft ensuring thecable is routed correctly.
(2.) Refer to section on elevator rigging control and tighten elevatorcontrol cables at turnbuckles. (3.) Reinstallallcable guard pins, rub blocks,andother hardware.
(b) Aft cables, running from turnbucklepositionsto aft sector, are installed asfollows:
(1.) Connect cables to at control sectorby reaching throughlighteninghole in aft canted bulkheadandaft access opening in tail, or by removing aft sector. (2.) Feed cablesthroughpulleysonF.S. 368.0 bulkhead(whereaft sector is attached). Attach cable terminal ends to leader lines. (3.) With leader lines tied to cable ends, have assistantfeedcablesthrough pulleys at turnbucklestation, or where leader lines end. (4.) After cables are pulled through, ensurecables are properly routed with respect to sector
andseatedin pulleys. (5.) Check rigging instructionsin this section. Tightencablesin turnbuckles. (6.) Reinstallall cable guardpins, fairleads accesspanels,andotherhardware.
(c) Checkproper operation of elevatorafter cable rigging is completed.
